It was so much fun finding yellow and grey birdie things over the past few months. I started collecting small bird cages and painted them all white. Then I collected little porcelain birds and painted them all yellow. And I also painted a small topiary tree that did not survive the winter... but in it's new life it served as the centerpiece; nestled in a vase of lemons with little grey paper birds hanging from it's branches!
The easiest thing by far was making tissue paper pom-poms. (They may remain hanging up for a while because they are too sweet to throw away just yet!)
Then came the food... I collected all sorts of yellow candies to create a candy bar. I baked a lemon custard cake that ended up being so pretty once I decorated it. And I came up with a new yummy invention for what I call "Lemon Nests". (see recipe below) Also on the menu were deviled eggs (naturally), chicken salad croissants and lemon cucumber punch. I think i've gained a few just overnight!
I found matching pencils and a journal that I laid out for everyone to write their motherly advice. And the party favors were decorated sugar cookie birds.
One game we played was called "My Water Broke". I froze a few dozen plastic babies in ice cubes and passed them out to all the guests. When I said "go!" everyone began sucking, licking and biting those poor little babies. The first person to get the baby completely out of the ice and yell "My water broke!"won a prize. You can see in the picture above some of the babies that didn't make it... The one on the left is crowning and the right one is breech!
Thanks to everyone that helped out! And congratulations Rachel!!!
Is there anything you don't do?!?
