My food quest this past month has been to develop the perfect Cinnamon Roll Recipe. Mission accomplished! Just smelling these baking gave me a few cavities. Fantastic with caramel sauce or a cream cheese frosting... they are even great plain. You know I discovered that because I couldn't even wait to frost them before eating one!
Ingredients:
Dough:
1 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
1 egg
3 cups flour
1/4 cup white sugar
4 tablespoons instant powdered milk
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
5 tablespoons butter, softened
2 teaspoon instant yeast
Directions:
1. | Place all dough ingredients in bread machine in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Select DOUGH setting, and turn machine on. |
2. | After dough has risen use a small saucepan, melt 1/3 cup butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar and cream; bring to a boil, and cook for 1 minute. Pour caramel into the bottom of a lightly greased 9 x 13 inch pan. |
3. | Remove dough from pan and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat dough into a rectangle. Mix together the cinnamon and brown sugar. Spread dough with softened butter and sprinkle lightly with sugar mixture, reserving 1/2 cup. Roll up and seal edge. Cut into 12 rolls, and place in prepared pan of caramel. Crumble remaining sugar mixture over the top. |
4. | Cover with saran wrap and place in refrigerator over night. Let stand at room temperature in the morning for 1 hour. While dough is out preheat oven to 350 degrees. Or rolls can be frozen and set on countertop overnight to come to room temperature before cooking. |
5. | Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, until golden brown. Flip pan over immediately onto a serving tray and let stand for a few minutes with the pan resting on top for caramel to soak into the rolls. Remove pan and enjoy. |
Cream Cheese Icing:
1 cup Margarine
1 cup cream cheese
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup cream cheese
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Allow margarine and cream cheese to reach room temperature. Beat cream cheese and margarine together in a bowl with a mixer. Slowly add in all powdered sugar. Once all of the sugar is in the bowl mix until fluffy. When almost done, add in the extracts.
